How to Hang Oven Mitts in an Oven Door

Every aspiring chef wants trusted oven mitts to assist remove gourmet dishes in the oven securely and conveniently. However, your oven mitts aren’t doing you any good if you can never find them. If you are a serial mitt-misplacer, consider hanging your mitts directly on the oven door rather than keeping them off. While most mitts aren’t designed to be easily hung on an oven door, this is a simple fix.

Use Ring Profiles

The exact rings or band clips that you use to hang your shower curtain are fantastic for slipping over the grip of the oven door. Make sure that you buy the type that either pinches closed or attributes a hook rather than a band — strong round ring or rings clips won’t work because there’s no way to thread them onto an oven door handle. Simply slip the ring or hook on the door handle and use it in order to secure your oven mitts.

Buy S Hooks

S hooks are the simplest fix of all but few men and women think to use them in a kitchen. They easily slip on the handle of the oven door to hold oven mitts and potholders. To use S hooks, however, your mitt must have a loop sewn on in the top. If this is lost, it’s simple enough to remedy — just stitch one in position. If you do not sew, thread a safety pin through a corner of the mitt and use this to slip above the S hook. If the hook will drop off as soon as the door is opened, then use pliers to reshape the loop so it’s smaller.

Clip with Clothespins

Clothespins or bull clips are far cheaper for hanging oven mitts, tea towels and more from the oven door. Suspend two or three clothespins or clips in the handle by tying them on with ribbon or twine. They’ll be there waiting when you are all set to hang up your mitts. Pretty ribbon with a little part of hook-and-loop tape to the end does the trick too — you’ll need to attach the reverse part of tape to a oven mitt, then only press the two together.

Stitch an Apron

If you are really crafty and you like coming up with new, inventive decor, you are able to stitch a simple apron for the handle of the oven door. Use a sturdy fabric like canvas, and add a lot of pockets for stashing oven mitts, pot holders and favorite spices. Attach loops to the top of your layout, slip them over the grip of the oven, and switch them in to position. Use big, decorative buttons that complement your kitchen’s decor.
