Bayfront Beauty in New Jersey

Set right on the bay of 18-mile Long Beach Island in New Jersey, Paul and Barbara Barnish’s summer house was developed to embrace the shore. From the bay views in each room to the rooftop deck for their personal pier throughout the road, the charming house is the perfect escape for this couple and their team of grandchildren.

The first home needed a smaller deck, so that they increased its size and enhanced the indoor/outdoor flow from the kitchen.

The habit lighthouse mailbox matches the property’s exterior colors. On days when they do not make it to the shore, the Barnishes simply walk across the road to their personal dock.

The new vinyl siding is made to resemble cedar. Designed to withstand humidity and saltwater, it’s much easier to maintain than wood.

The couple restricted blinds to just four windows to welcome in plenty of natural light and bay views.

The original kitchen was cramped, isolated and small, but the new kitchen is open and bright with more space to enjoy dining room.

The built-in cabinetry and dining room is just one of the kitchen of Barbara’s favorite features.

Laminate flooring throughout the ground floor makes for easy cleanup after a day at the shore.

“The beadboard cabinets were a must,” Barbara says. The white and tan countertops are granite.

The renovations included three bedrooms to assist accomodate all the couple’s grandchildren.

Bay windows in the master bedroom provide a beautiful view of the water. Beadboard at a pure end covers the 18-foot ceilings. Paul and Barbara like to wake up at sunrise and choose a boat ride, and the organic light reflecting off the bay makes an perfect wake-up call.

Paul and Barbara wished to create their bedroom of a relaxing escape than the first one had been. They achieved this via the architectural layout of the ceiling, a new master bathroom, a sizable walk-in cupboard and enough room to get a seating area from the windows.

Sliding glass doors in the master bedroom lead to a private deck. “It is the perfect space to see a book or enjoy a cup of java in the morning,” Barbara says.

The guest bedroom is reserved for the couple’s daughter if she is on holiday with her loved ones.

The rooftop deck was inserted during the home’s renovation, and it creates a great spot for entertaining or pops up more sunlight.

From that deck, you can look past the docks and watch the bay and the beach on the other side.
