In most cases, you will need to get an expert if you ever need to repair your leather sofa. However, there are a few things that you can also do on your own.

Below is a simple guide to assist you in repairing simple tears and scratches.

Durable Leather

While leather is durable, especially if you have genuine leather, it will easily feel the brunt of wear and tear. You, however, can recondition it without having to spend a lot on reupholstery. Reconditioning will make your leather furniture look as good as new again.

Surface Scratches

The toys your kids play with will leave scratches on the surface of your leather furniture. The same applies to your pets’ paws. In a normal home, this kind of wear and tear is expected. However, they are not serious damages and can be handled easily.

Even in the case of deeper or larger tears and scratches, there is still something you can do to repair your sofa.

The following are some of the products you will need:

Lint-free cloth
Leather or Vinyl repair kit
Leather conditioner
Leather cleaner

Cleaning the Sofa

You should use a commercial carpet cleaning Mesa AZ cleaner. If you don’t have one, you can make it yourself. Get some warm water (a quart) and mix it with a tablespoon of castile soap. Stir evenly and then add a few drops of vinegar.

Spray the mix or commercial cleaner on your leather seat, and then using the lint-free towel, wipe the couch clean.

Condition

Once you have cleaned the surface of your leather furniture, you should almost immediately notice a difference. After that, work a very thin layer of conditioner on the surface. Rub it in lightly and evenly. The conditioner will offer added protection to the leather surface, and will make it look radiant.

When working in the conditioner, do not use any applicator or machine. Using your hands is better because you will be able to do the work evenly. Do this in a circular motion until the leather cannot absorb more conditioner.

Once you are through, allow the conditioner to settle on the surface of your leather sofa for around 2-3 hours. In case your leather sofa is damaged, or if you have a really old piece of furniture, you might have to leave it overnight, and then in the morning you apply another coat of conditioning.

Damaged Areas

For the segments that are badly damaged, you will need a patching kit. Most patching kits include a color chart to help you match the leather color. Make sure you follow the instructions carefully for the best results.

Once you have got the right color mix, apply the vinyl or leather patch to the parts that are badly damaged. Use a clean cloth to wipe off the excesses around the edges of the damaged areas, and then leave it to dry.

When you are done, you must wipe away any of the conditioner that was not absorbed by your carpet cleaning Mesa. Let the leather sofa sit untouched for a couple of hours before you seat on it again.
