Kordana roses are specially developed miniature roses which are easy to care for and prosper in an indoor environment. They are available in many distinct colours and are known for having large flowers, despite their miniature size, and healthy, dark green foliage. Unlike most garden roses, which might be grafted onto existing rootstock, miniature roses grow in their roots. Because of the numerous and closely spaced buds, pruning miniature roses may be an even easier task than fortifying other varieties of roses.
Wash a pair of sharp scissors or pruning shears. You must always begin with clean shears so there is no chance of spreading infections between plants. A great method to do so is to dip the shears in a 10 percent bleach solution or isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol.
Cut off old and fading blooms. Begin at the top of the bush, and work your way down to the lower branches.
Eliminate dead or twiggy growth. Also, remove any branches which are growing at unusual angles and interfering with additional development. Do not be worried about removing too much. Roses are plants.
Assess the remaining branches. Try to picture in your head what you want the bush to look like once you are finished. You may prefer a taller, skinnier bush, or a squatter rounder form. If your miniature rose is well established, and a fairly large bush, then you may have the ability to get even more creative with shaping. Now that you have eliminated old and problematic growth, pruning your rose is a matter of personal aesthetic taste.
Cut branches to support the shape you desire. Aim to remove about one-third of the growth. This is enough to encourage new development but not so much that you weaken the plant. Make your cuts just over the dormant bud eyes. These are slightly swollen regions of the stem where you detect leaf development. New branches will grow from this stage, so try to make your cuts just above outward facing bud eyes to support fresh branches to grow outward. This will help with air circulation and the overall attractiveness and health of the plant.
Wash up the rose bed. Throw all clippings and trimmings from the trash, and carefully pull out any weeds that may have sprouted on your container. Rose trimmings decompose gradually, so they are not a fantastic addition to your compost pile.
