How to Fix Suede Fringe

Suede fringe, while it’s on wall hanging, a pillow or carpet, may become curled or unkempt over time. As opposed to relegating it to the thrift store or living with the decorative piece in its own state that was sloppy, fixing the fringe is often a matter of giving a few passes with a horizontal iron or an iron to it usually utilized to lighten hair. By protecting the fringe throughout the ironing process with a soft fabric, it is kept .

Clothes Iron Method

Plug in an iron, choosing a low heat setting without steam.

Cover the work surface with a non-metallic white fabric, like a tea towel, if working with a thing that is tiny . Put smoothing the fringe out horizontal. Skip this step if managing furniture or objects that can’t be easily placed on a table.

Smooth a soft white fabric. So the fringe gets horizontal if the fringe is on a vertical surface such as underneath the arm of a chair, put a clear, smooth wood cutting board supporting the fringe, rotating the board. Put the fabric. Enlist a friend’s help as the hands prove helpful, if it’s vertical fringe.

Iron the fabric over the knee, running from the top down, holding the iron set up a second or 2 at a time. After ironing the whole area check the fringe.

Remove and allow the fringe to rest in a vertical position so gravity helps keep it right. When it’s an item such as a cushion, clip on the top border of the pillow into some clothesline with clothespins or prop it up in such a way that the fringe that is affected hangs down.

Flat Iron Method

Plug in a flat iron, set to medium heat.

Pull on 1 section of this affected fringe with a single hand. Sandwich the fringe between the jaws of this horizontal iron, squeezing so the strands are not twisted it shut across the fringe, adjusting the strands as necessary.

Slide the closed iron over the fringe, holding the iron in every location for under a moment to prevent heat discoloration.

Grab another section of fringe, pulling it taut, and keep until all the fringe has been treated, ironing. Permit the fringe to rest so it hangs in a position that is natural, utilizing gravity to help keep the fringe.
